‘Think Cab Calloway, New Orleans style piano playing, Louis Jordan, boogie, swamp rock and old-style, blues-influenced big-band styles and you’ll be pretty close to the sounds of this talented outfit.’ Bruce Elder – Sydney Morning Herald
Big Wheel's CD inaugural "Little Story'" was voted best Australian Blues release for 2003 by the readers of Rhythms Magazine.
Rhythms Editor Brian Wise listed it amongst his top 20 favourite releases for 2003 and Blues Columnist Peter Lowry included it in his top 5 favourite releases for 2003. In March Little Story climbed to number 3 on the Rhythms chart and was a Final Nominee in the 2004 ARIA's.
Released in October 2008, Big Wheel's second album, Share This Life, promises to be as sucessful as the last CD, as indicated by the early critical reviews:
Doug Spence-The Weekend Planet
Share this Life is the second album from Jim Conway's Big Wheel. The leader is Australia's most celebrated harmonica player. His colleagues comprise a 'dream band' of top-shelf singers and players. All know more than a bit about the blues, other musics, too...and each other. Everyone co-operates, not competes. Each is a master of what NOT to play…. Moods and grooves are nicely varied, but the 'feel' is always just-right. Recorded superbly, the Big Wheelers sound wonderfully relaxed...and highly alert.
Richard Glover- Drive ABC 702
