Big Wheel's Second CD, Share this Life Reviews

JIM CONWAY'S BIGWHEEL

This is the second album from Jim Conway's exuberant five-piece outfit (harmonica, guitar, keyboards, drums, bass) and it is a wonderful reminder of the sheer joy and vitality of old-style swing, jumpin' jive, R&B and that loping style of New Orleans piano playing.  The album's rich soul- and R&B-based sound is far removed from the Delta blues of his former band, the Backsliders.

The album's 11 tracks range from the lazy styling of You Were Going To Put Me Down, through the Dan Penn influenced Running Away With The Blues to the smouldering Been Doin' Something Wrong.

The end result is an album over laden with superb musicianship combined with beautifully crafted songs. The appeal of this album is that it doesn't sound like white men trying to play black music.  lt just sounds like a bunch of musicians having a great time. "
